CVWriting.net is a CV creation service which allows you to build your own professional curriculum vitae for print, online or to download on mobile devices. It includes a range of guides for interviews, document writing and more, plus a reviews service and articles to help improve your understanding of the current climates in job hunting.
Unlike most of the CV writing services we’ve reviewed in this category, CV Writing is better suited to people who are fairly happy with the content of their CVs, but may need a little guidance and a few professional templates to help them add that extra bit of polish. As such we don’t really recommend it for anyone who wants their CV written on their behalf, by a professional writer. That service is not available on this site.
So what is on offer if you have the majority of your CV ready to go? Well you can use a number of tools for free, allowing you to build the CV and view it online. You can take advantage of a system which includes a spell checker, multiple templates, and a few extras for cover letters and mobile options. If you want to download your CV, store it online and make regular changes, however, you’ll need to upgrade.
Upgrading essentially allows you full access to your CV and all of the site’s editing tools. If you’re not sure how to fix your CV, CVWriting.net offers a free review service to its paying members. The team will take a look at your current CV and suggest ways to improve it, which can be pretty useful.
The upgrade costs around £15 per year, which is very affordable. Essentially, though, when it comes down to the nitty gritty of editing and writing, you have to do the work for yourself. This site is really offering a range of useful tools (plus the expert review) for your fee, which is why it’s considerably cheaper than many other UK CV writing websites.
CVs are available for general purpose, management positions, graduates and technical jobs. The website explains that CVs in the UK are different from those in other countries, so its upgrades can help people who aren’t quite sure of those differences. Whilst it promotes the use of its spell checker, this isn’t a massive selling point considering you can easily use a spell checker elsewhere. That said, it’s always good to make sure everything is properly spelled in British English.
When your CV is complete you can access documents whenever you like, making changes and updates to suit your situation. You can also store it online, which is handy if you need it when travelling. Mobile and webpage CV options are a nice addition to the paid service, allowing employers to view your CV through a browser, rather than having to send them a file (which some employers won’t open for fear of viruses).
With interview guides, a blog, CV writing guides and a range of templates and tools, CVWriting provides a number of useful features for paying members. It’s not really suited to anyone who needs a complete CV written on their behalf, but should provide enough support for anyone who needs to spice up their documents and make sure they’re to a professional standard before applying for work.
